If I were going to clean one, I'd take it to the do it yourself car wash and pressure wash it. Leave it in the sun all day to dry.

Clean because dirty? I wouldn't. But if smell is the issue, we do fabreeze in a trash bag. Put the projector in the bag, spray several shots in the bag and seal it off overnight, or whatever.

Yeah, it's just dirty. Not smelly...yet.

never done it, but if I did, I would use as gentle treatment as possible. Maybe a mild detergent on the delicate cycle in the washing machine, or top shelf of the dishwasher? I would also hang dry as to not use too much heat.

I've used a plastic bristle brush and some laundry detergent (powder) and just scrubbed it clean. Rinse, then hang to dry for a day.

Don't. Catcher's gear is supposed to be dirty. Who wants a clean catcher behind the plate? I agree with LynkSpyder, Febreeze is your nose's best friend.

Clean a chest protector?
Dirtier the better.
First thing I told my son to do after he got his all-star gear was to roll around in the dirt so he didn't look like a backup catcher.

Any respectable catcher will clean his gear with regularity... both from appearance and for longevity...

I ended up just wiping them down with some baby wipes and letting it all sit in the sun for five hours.

Take it to a hockey shop, where they'll clean it for you in their ozone cleaner
